Aswan, the First Cataract

|
| Aswan is Egypt's sunniest southern city. Located about 81 miles south of Luxor it has a distinctly African Atmosphere. In Aswan, the River Nile is at its most alluring flowing through golden sands and around brilliant green islands covered in palm groves. Aswan is believed to have been the cradle of the ancient Egyptian civilization, when it was known as the Nubian lands. |
It was at the freshwater marshes along the River Nile, near Aswan, where papyrus grew abundantly that paper was produced for the first time. The use of papyrus as a writing medium goes back to antiquity, with the oldest written known record on papyrus dating back 2600 BC. Papyrus was also used for making rope, bedding, baskets, sandals, and other useful articles.Aswan features an abundance of ancient monuments and sculptures bearing hieroglyphic inscriptions, which communicate the grandeur of old Egypt. Located nearby is the ancient Temple of Philae, dedicated to the deity Isis, and the Elephantine Islands, which are located on Lake Nasser.
The contrasts of the deep and light blues of the Nile with the yellow sands of the desert in Aswan are mesmerizing and will serve in tempting you to indulge in a Nile cruise with NTI. In Aswan you will find a new definition for the word hospitality.
